New Dissertation

I just came across this new dissertation which was only completed last month:

Heemstra, Marius. "How Rome's Administration of the Fiscus Judaicus Accelerated the Parting of the Ways between Judaism and Christianity: Rereading 1 Peter, Revelation, the Letter to the Hebrews, and the Gospel of John in their Roman and Jewish Contexts." Ph.D. diss., Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, 2009.

The website is in Dutch, but the dissertation is in English.

  1. Great blog, Brian! My ThM thesis was on the Epistle to the Hebrews back in 2005. I wish this blog had been available back in those days. Still, thanks for making so much material available in one place!

  3. Certainly. My name is Stuart Mizelle, and I received my ThM at Duke. My thesis title was "μέτοχοι τοῦ Χριστοῦ: Eschatalogical Journey and Kingly Inheritance in the Epistle to the Hebrews." The basic gist of the thesis is that μέτοχοι τοῦ Χριστοῦ in 3:14 is a pregnant phrase encapsulating much of the theology of the author. In my understanding packed within 3:14 in general and within the focus phrase specifically we find much about the author's eschatology, his understanding of the current state of the covenant community, and his understanding of the community's relationship to Christ.
